This year the AGM Marathon will be held on Saturday, 23rd September, and hosted by How Hard Can It Be Events. The race will start and finish at Colaport Village Hall just south of Telford and within the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage site.
The race will comprise three laps taking in Madely, Aqueduct, Rough Park, Colabrokedale and Ironbridge. Runners will get to cross the world-famous and iconic Ironbridge three times. After crossing the bridge to the south side of River Severn, the route continues through Jacfkfield and back to Coalport, where it crosses over the river and returns to the race HQ. This is your chance to run through the cradle of the Industrial Revolution, the route, although on the edge of the urban conurbation of Telford, is surprisingly rural and picturesque.
The course is mostly on tarmac or good paths; road shoes are recommended. There are some climbs on the route but no mountains.
There will be well-stocked aid stations each, one at race HQ and one approximately halfway around. There are toilets at Race HQ and close to the route in Ironbridge.
The route will be well-marked.
Although we are unable to offer a handicapped race this year, we are offering a choice of starting times to accommodate runners of different paces; we are asking participants to select a start time which will mean that they will finish between 14:00 and 15:00.
All finishers will receive a bespoke medal.
Club members entering before July 31st will receive a £5 discount funded by the club. From Ist July the price will increase to £36
How Hard Can It Be Events have agreed to put on a second marathon on Sunday, 24th September, for those wishing to make a weekend of it. The Sunday marathon can be booked only via their website and does not have the £5 discount for club members being applied to Saturday's race.
After the race is concluded, the Race HQ will become the venue for the club's 2023 AGM. We expect to start the meeting at 15:30; papers for the meeting will be sent out six weeks before the meeting date. Simple catering will be provided for those attending the AGM; please indicate on the entry form if you will be attending the AGM and complete the dietary requiremenst section, as this helps us to plan.
We hope to see many members at the race and AGM. Let's turn the Ironbridge Gorge blue and yellow.
