Badger
completes 10th 100 milers
On the
last bank holiday weekend in May Mike Newbitt aka Badger (or the old W**ker)
took part in the Yoredale 100 challenge. This event requires runners/walkers
to complete a 100 miles off road in 48 hours following a set of instructions. The
event started from the old market town of Skipton from where the route
sets off following the Aire Valley and the Leeds/Liverpool canal to Gargrave.
Here the route turns northwards to visit Malham, Settle and Ingleton. It is
then up to Ingleborough (2372 ft), the highest point of the route.
A five mile descent to Horton-in-Ribblesdale, then it is onwards to
Wensleydale and Hawes (52 miles). The route then turns south from
Bainbridge and visits Stalling Busk, then it is up to Stake
Moss. From here it is a welcome 28 miles net descent down to Buckden then
onwards down Wharfedale to Addingham. It then leaves Wharfedale and the
route turns westwards over Draughton Moor and back to Skipton.
This was
Badgers 10th 100 mile event and he completed it in 38 hours and 38 minutes,
pretty good going for someone with a pensioners bus pass. Badger took it easy and
he looked quite fresh when he finished (apart from needing a good shower).
