MBDA Charity Dinner in London in aid of the Armed Forces Benevolent Fund

2008

Dame Kelly Holmes and Carol Paul

Carol Paul recently attended a MBDA Charity Dinner in London in aid of the Armed Forces Benevolent Fund.
Dame Kelly Holmes was one of the guest speakers and Carol was delighted when one of the MBDA directors introduced her to the double Olympic medal winner.
Carol said “Kelly was really nice and down to earth, I said pleased to meet you Dame Kelly and she immediately put me at ease by saying “ Oh, just call me Kelly “ she was really interested in my running and seemed really impressed at my 160 plus marathons. Later on during her after dinner speech she was talking about what inspired her to keep going when she was injured and how athletes drawn on their inner strength and take inspiration from others around her, she then said “in fact I’ve met one inspirational lady tonight was has run over 160 marathons” I then had to stand up and got a round of applause”
Later on in the evening I bumped into Kelly again and this time she just happened to be carrying her Olympic Gold medals and that was too good a photo opportunity to miss. I asked if I could wear one of her medals and Kelly said “yeh of course but you must have of loads of medals at home”.
I’ve always followed Kelly’s career and to get the chance meet her was fantastic, she comes across as a really genuine person who thoroughly deserves the success she finally achieved.”
